BMW MINI FRM Footwell Module Repair
Short Circuit Fault Reset

This repair service is for FRM which communicate over OBD and where most functions work but there is a persistent short circuit fault. We will reset this short circuit fault for the affected circuits.

Plug & Play with no additional dealer VIN coding required. You can choose to send in the module or via a remote session using BMW K-DCAN Cable and Windows Laptop.

This repair service applies to units which communicate with scanner and which have permanent short-circuit faults.

Footwell Module Failure Description

Typical symptoms of a faulty FRM Requiring a Short Circuit Reset are certain lights not working, no signal output from FRM, persistent short circuit faults and more. FRM short circuit faults typically occur due to wiring problems in the vehicle causing shorts to ground or to battery. After a certain number of detected short circuits by the FRM the circuit will be disabled to prevent possible further electrical damage to vehicle. This fault can be reset and the circuit will resume it’s function. It is important to note that the wiring issue must be addressed as simply resetting the short circuit will not fix the problem.

Common Symptoms of a Footwell Module with Short Circuit Problems

  1. One or more Lights not working
  2. No voltage is being output by FRM for specific lights
  3. Short Circuit Faults stored in FRM

Water Damaged and Electrically Burnt Units

MINI vehicles have a common problem with sunroof drain leaking water down the A-pillar and onto FRM module.
Please contact us first with pictures before purchasing to confirm your module is repairable.
 

Determine if your Footwell Module is Damaged (Burnt or Corroded)

  1. Corrosion will be present due to water ingress. It will show as green and white residue.
  2. Inspect each of the (3) connectors for corrosion. Inspect both the male and female ends.
  3. Carefully disassemble the module and inspect the main board inside and all components.
  4. Corrosion or burning is indicative of water ingress or an external short circuit.
