Typical symptoms of a bad Footwell Module are power windows/mirrors not working.
Light malfunctions and no communication with Diagnostic Equipment are also indicators.
FRM module commonly fails due to low voltage. This can be caused by a flat battery, jump starting, disconnecting the battery and sometimes during diagnostics or programming. The module becomes internally corrupt AKA bricked.
Symptoms of a bricked/dead FRM module:

- Lost connection with OBD2
- Front windows not working at all.
- The lights switch does not work (headlight always on/off).
- Indicators not showing feedback on instrument cluster.
- Central lock is not operating
- Sunroof, electric mirrors windows are not working
- If a convertible – the top roof does not fold
In some vehicles (most commonly MINI) water ingress will cause corrosion of the Footwell Module connectors and board, also causing various lights and features to malfunction. Depending on the level of damage we will either refurbish your old unit or transfer the programming to a donor module.

Where is The Footwell Module Located?
The BMW FRM (Footwell Module) is located at the footwell of the driver’s side.
You will have to remove the plastic covers to access it.
