Service Specifications

A common problem that Mercedes owners often experience is that the key no longer turns in the ignition. This problem is usually caused either by a lousy shifter module, a defective key, a failed Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS), or a bad steering lock module (ESL).

The service helps you test and repair your Electronic Ignition Switch, known as EIS or EZS. The service is for the EIS of W164 M Class, GL Class after 2009, and W251 R Class.

Your Mercedes Benz has an immobilizer system, known as DAS3, which works with infra-red keys and an infra-red EIS/EZS. This integrated immobilizer system incorporates other parts of your car like your engine ECM and, sometimes, the Automatic Transmission Mechatronics unit.

A fault in this system, which the EIS is a part of, can affect the proper functioning of your car. In other words, your car might not start. This service will help you test and repair any issue with your EIS/EZS.

When you send your EIS unit, you are required to send at least one ignition key along to aid the testing of the unit. The repair of your EIS would not necessitate additional programming of your ESM or engine ECM.

APPLICATION:

Mercedes ML/GL/R class 2008-2012
W164, X164: 1645450808,  1645451008, 1645451408, 1645451808, 1649051600 etc.

Some of the common symptoms that indicate that your ignition module might be faulty are:

  • Key doesn’t turn in the Mercedes Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS)
  • Key doesn’t turn in the Mercedes EIS when there’s cold weather
  • The key turns in the Mercedes EIS, but the ignition lights on the instrument cluster don’t switch on
  • Key sometimes doesn’t turn in the Mercedes EIS

On the instrument cluster message appears, please remove the key, and nothing else happens.
